Step 1
Obtain your Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) and Cisco Certified Design Associate (CCDA) certifications first as a prerequisite to become a Cisco Advanced Wireless LAN Design Specialist.
-
Step 2
Know that it's not necessary to complete an Expert level certificate to become a Cisco Advanced Wireless LAN Design Specialist. Achieve a CCIE at some point if you want additional training in another networking area. Choose the CCDP as an option also since it follows the CCDA on the Cisco career path for Design.
-
Step 3
Design wireless solutions, including voice over WLAN and outdoor mesh and secure Wi-Fi. Use advanced wireless Cisco products. Demonstrate your knowledge of antenna theory, radio frequency theory and 802.11a/b/g standards. Perform site surveys and configure controllers.
-
Step 4
Keep in mind you must have a valid CCDA before becoming a Wireless LAN Design certification training candidate. Take the 642-586 AWLANSE required exam to become a Cisco Advanced Wireless LAN Design Specialist. Learn Cisco Wireless LAN Fundamentals and Advanced Topics as part of the recommended curriculum.
-
Step 5
Find Cisco-approved training facilities and schools listed on the "Cisco" website. Realize while some local colleges and other schools may offer beginning level certification training, such as the CCNA, they may not offer Specialist training.
-
Step 6
Include test fees, materials and tuition in your estimated costs to become a Cisco Advanced Wireless LAN Design Specialist. Realize that intense study, memorization and comprehension are required for all Cisco courses. Look for the official "Cisco" symbol for approved schools and training.
