Fashion is an extremely competitive business and hard to get into without knowing someone or starting at the bottom and very patiently working your way up. An internship is another way to break into the fashion industry and make a name for yourself while learning from the best. Use these steps to learn more about fashion internships and how to find one.

Instructions

Difficulty: Challenging

Step1
Check with your fashion school first. If you are enrolled at a fashion institute, your internship counselor will have many opportunities and inside connections to help get you the internship you desire.
Step2
Contact a designer or company directly. This is a little tougher as many of them prefer to go through an agency, but if you absolutely love a certain designer and want the opportunity to work with them, then ask. If you never try, you will never get a "yes."
Step3
Consider an outside internship company. There are many companies that specialize in helping students and individuals to find the fashion internship that is right for them. One such company is Global Experiences, which offers fashion internships all over the world.
Step4
Find a lesser-known or mass retail designer. You may have a better chance of getting an internship in the fashion department of a major retailer, such as Macy's or a lesser known designer like Nicole Miller. These are still amazing places to start and amazingly successful people to learn from. This should be based on the experience you want, high end clothing or clothing for the everyday woman.
