Play throughout childhood. Those students who have played in previous years before have a greater chance of making the high school team. If you are out of practice, join a summer team to brush up before tryouts.

Prepare academically. There are academic standards in every school district in regards to sports. Check with your school to find out what they are, but know that you will need to keep your grades up and have good attendance to participate in school sports.

Try out. Every school sport holds tryouts. This is a time when anyone interested in being on the baseball team can come and showcase their skills for a chance to be a part of the team. Be prepared by knowing there will likely be a large number of people trying out with great skills on the field.
