The Indy Racing League, or IRL, is very popular among racing fans. Many people want to get into the race car business without actually driving the cars. The perfect way to do that is to become a race official. You get front row seats and free admission to all the races. The best part is that you actually get paid for having fun. Follow these steps to become a race official.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Acquire knowledge of the Indy Racing League. You can do this by subscribing to Indy racing magazines such as "IndyCar Series" magazine and attending IRL races. Talk to the current race officials at the track about their knowledge and experience.

  2. Step 2

Volunteer at the races to get experience. Most hiring managers want you to have some experience with the position in which you are applying for. Ask the current race official if you can shadow him.

  3. Step 3

Learn the basics of race car mechanics. This is necessary to become a race official with any racing league. You can gain this experience by enrolling in a school of mechanics such as Jim Russell Racing Schools.

  4. Step 4

Create a professional resume that includes your education and experience with Indy League racing. You can typeset this yourself or pay a professional to do the document creation. Make sure it looks clean and sharp.

  5. Step 5

Go online to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway website and click on "Jobs." There you can find jobs specifically for that speedway as well as the IRL. You can apply for jobs and upload your resume.

  6. Step 6

Interview for the position of race official. Dress in business attire and carry yourself in a professional manner.
