Learn the basics of racing. You will also need to learn, understand and enforce the NASCAR rule book. Make sure to study it from front to back as you will be held accountable for knowing all the information in it.

Step 2
Get experience by volunteering at the track and shadowing a Winston West race official. The best way to learn a trade is to volunteer and shadow the best in the business.

Step 3
Gain an understanding of mechanics. You can do this by taking college courses at your junior college or a trade school. Junior college is a lot less expensive and you can apply for financial aid.

Step 4
Create a resume that includes any and all experience you have in the racing industry. Make sure to include your volunteer experience. Experience doesn't have to be paid to count.

Log on to racingwest.com and see if Winston West is hiring for race officials. You will find Winston West as well as many other racing divisions. You can also call the NASCAR JobLine at (386) 253-0611 and get information on a position as a Winston West race official.

Step 6
Interview for the position. Be sure to dress sharp and carry yourself with a professional demeanor to land the job.
