LEGO Robots have features that set them apart from your garden variety robot in the toy store. The LEGO brand has always been associated with creativity and learning. That remains true today. This lineup of robots provides hours of enjoyment for children and adults. You can choose them based on the age of the user or the skills that you or your child want to learn.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Read educational articles about LEGO robots and download robot building instruction kits for the LEGO RCX and NXT robot series at the Carnegie Mellon University National Robotics Institute. Offsite links take you to additional resources for LEGO robot plans, forums and blogs.
Step2
Visit the official LEGO website to peruse the robots and accessories available for sale. The Mindstorm NXT robot leads the LEGO robot lineup, currently. This extremely versatile robot, introduced in 2006, is popular with kids and adults.
Step3
Search local retailers and online and popular auction sites for bargains on LEGO's older model robots. Few owners part with their robots, but some have been known to sell parts and accessories. You may be able to piece together your own robots by collecting accessories from other owners.
Step4
Create a LEGO robot wish list. Check local garage sales, especially those that advertise children's toys. Find LEGO robots slightly used or in mint condition because the child simply had no interest in the robot at the time the parent bought it.
Step5
Check classified ads for private owner sales. Contact sellers to get model details, accessories, condition and more. The selling price should not be more (in real dollars) than the LEGO robot originally cost.
Step6
Buy your first LEGO robot. Get software to learn programming and participate in robotics competitions. Check LEGO blogs and the First LEGO League international K-12 activities and tips.
