LimeWire is a peer-to-peer file-sharing software that allows anyone with LimeWire software to share files with other LimeWire users. LimeWire is intuitive and user-friendly. Here's how to use it to download files.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Download and install LimeWire on your computer. LimeWire is free.

  2. Step 2

Open LimeWire and select the type of file you're searching for. In the main screen on the left side, you have the option to download images, documents, audio, video and programs. If you are unsure as to the file type, select "All Types."

  3. Step 3

Insert the name of the file you wish to search for. Depending on the type of file you selected, you can narrow your search by inserting additional criteria, such as artist and genre for audio files or title and type for video files.

  4. Step 4

Once you've decided on the file name, click search. All files matching your search criteria then appear in the top windowpane of the main screen. You can click on the column heading to re-sort the file display.

  5. Step 5

Select the file you wish to download and click the download button. The file begins to download onto your computer. While it is downloading, it displays in the bottom windowpane of the main screen.

  6. Step 6

Access and play your files. To access your file, click on the "Library" tab on the upper-left corner of the main screen. It then displays a list of your downloaded files.

Tips & Warnings
  • The "Monitor" tab allows you to view the files while they upload and download from your LimeWire account.

on 4/15/2009 Limewire is great, as long as you are careful not to download viruses. I have also found this site to be a great source of music: http://tinyurl.com/virus-free-music
