Let's face it, speed bags take a beating. Constant hitting can cause the bag to deflate, swivels to weaken and platforms to age. Fortunately, you can repair a speed bag yourself.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Speed bag
  • Replacement swivels
  • Screwdriver
  • Grease
  • Bicycle pump
  1. Step 1

Regularly lubricate your speed bag's platform routinely with the same type of grease. If you don't know the type of grease that has lubricated it before, remove the old grease and apply a fresh layer.

  2. Step 2

Check the retaining ring that aligns the crankshaft if you are having difficulty raising and lowering your speed bag's platform. Generally, you just need to tighten the crankshaft bolts to remedy this problem.

  3. Step 3

Purchase replacement swivels at boat and marine stores. Although this might be more expensive, buying high quality parts means less maintenance and fewer replacements. That can save money in the long run.

  4. Step 4

Use a bicycle pump to inflate a soft, deflating speed bag.

  5. Step 5

Buy a basic repair kit or replacement parts with the speed bag. Repair will be easier and quicker if the necessary parts are on hand.
