From Quick Guide: Boxing 101
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Find an open location that allows freedom of movement. Shadow boxing is more than merely throwing punches; footwork is also key to performing adequately.

  2. Step 2

Dress in appropriate athletic attire that allows you to be comfortable while you work to perfect your shadow boxing. Expect to sweat if you're doing things right.

  3. Step 3

Concentrate on making your punches exact, paying particular attention to the jab. Work on speed not power.

  4. Step 4

Move forward against your shadow opponent by stepping with your front foot and sliding your back. When you retreat, step with your back foot and slide with your front so that you're always on balance.

  5. Step 5

Practice throwing combinations as you bob and weave. The ability to always remain mobile is key to your effort to perfect your shadow boxing.

  6. Step 6

Remember to control your breathing throughout the boxing practice. Becoming winded too early only decreases your chances of performing the punches properly.
