Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Things You’ll Need:
- Hair bows
- Camera
- Invitations
- Small prizes
Before the Party
Step1
Find a hostess who can hold a hair bow party. Ask friends, relatives, and neighbors if they are interested. If you can't find anyone, host your own party.
Step2
Decide which type of party your hostess wants. You can hold a scheduled party with specific start and end times, or you can hold an open house type party where guests come in and out over a period of time.
Step3
Send out invitations at least 2 weeks before the party. You can let the hostess send these out, or have her give you a list and send them out yourself. Write a note in the invite so guests can bring outfits their daughters like so you can take pictures of them for creating custom bows.
Step4
Create hair bows you can sell at the party, and sample hair bows guests can look at. If you have seasonal ribbon for bows, bring sample cards with ribbon swatches on them so guests can see them.
During the Party
Step1
Arrive an hour before the party start time. Set up the display and lay out a sign in sheet where guests write down their name and phone number. This is your possible client contact sheet when drumming up new business.
Step2
Greet guests as they arrive. Take pictures of outfits that guests have brought shortly after they walk in. Avoid film developing by using a digital camera for picture taking. Show the guests which bow ribbons would look best with their outfits. Have a notebook handy and write down picture number along with customer and order information.
Step3
Play games at a scheduled party. Offer prizes for winners of the games such as a percentage off or a free bow dollar. You can also use sample bows as prizes.
Step4
Compile orders and answer questions. Let your guests know the approximate date their hair bows will be ready. Collect all of your money the day of the party.
Step5
Book other parties before guests leave. Inform them of the incentives of hosting a party such as free hair bows or money towards bows.
After the Party
Step1
Inform hostess of what she has earned. Some choices for hostess gifts are: a percentage of her total sales she can use towards buying hair bows, between 3 to 5 free bows, or "bow dollars" good for a certain period of time. Use her total sales when calculating how much she's earned.
Step2
Create bows and deliver them to the hostess. Include coupons in the delivery bags offering incentives for guests who host a party.
Step3
Wait a few weeks and then make follow up calls. Use the contact sheet guests filled out at the previous party for numbers. Ask how they like the bows and if they would be interested in hosting a party.
