How to Exercise Without Trying

Many people would love to lose a few pounds but either do not have time to set up a fitness regime or (understandably) despise the very thought of exercise. There are ways to improve your health, tone muscles and drop pounds without changing your routine noticeably or signing up at the local gym.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Park as far away from your destination as possible. Whether you are going to the doctor, grocery store or hair salon, leave your car as far away from the door as is reasonably possible. When you consider how many places you go during the day or the week, the extra steps will do you good.

  2. Step 2

Suck in that gut. No matter what you are doing, make a conscious effort to pull in your stomach muscles and (when appropriate) tighten your buttocks. This tones the muscles, strengthens them and soon you'll do it without thinking.

  3. Step 3

Take the stairs. Get your finger off of that elevator button and find the stairs around the corner. You needn't race up and reach the top panting and sweating; just take a slow, regular pace. The more often you do this the easier it becomes and the faster your pace will be.

  4. Step 4

Pick up toys, dirty laundry or general household clutter one at a time. Bend over and pick them up one at a time; keep from sitting on the floor and scooping them up all at once.

  5. Step 5

Find a friend and go for a walk. Rather than sitting around drinking coffee and gossiping, take it to the streets. Believe it or not, it is not that difficult to do these two things at once; it also gives you other subjects to converse about. When you walk with someone whose company you enjoy you won't notice that your are actually exercising.
