Wind chimes make beautiful noises and can brighten up your day. Making wind chimes involves a fair amount of precision work but can be great fun. Should you enjoy this hobby, learning how to sell wind chimes permits you to make money doing something you enjoy.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Learn how to make the chimes. You'll need various types of tubing or pipes. The pipes will make the musical sounds, so be sure to test out various types of metal or wood pipes to get the sounds you want.

  2. Step 2

Gather the materials. You need wire, wood or other top ornaments and a hack saw to make a basic wind chime. Once you have the basics down, buy the materials in bulk to save money on them.

  3. Step 3

Design a small line of chimes. While being creative with every design is appealing, it's best in the beginning to come up with 3 to 5 designs. Each chime may not be exactly the same, but you should create consistency.

  4. Step 4

Create a website for selling. Learn how to design the site on your own or hire a professional. Get the site up and running and allow people to order the chimes from your site. Also have information about pricing for stores and how to contact you.

  5. Step 5

Set up consignment agreements with local merchants. A consignment agreement is pretty basic: You put your chimes in a store, and the store owner gives you a certain amount of money for each one that sells. You want to work from these agreements to outright purchases of your chimes.

  6. Step 6

Go to craft fairs. People at craft fairs are there to buy, and you can get wonderful repeat customers at these fairs. This is the time to test out your lines and see which ones sell the best. Also try out a couple of more creative, experimental chime designs.

  7. Step 7

Donate chimes in exchange for advertising. Many organizations hold silent auctions. You can donate chimes to them for auction, and they will put your business card with the auction item. Even if people do not win your auction, they will be able to see your business card and may buy in the future.

Tips & Warnings
  • Business cards are a must. Hand them out freely and frequently.
