How to Get Tickets to American Idol

Because of the tremendous popularity of "American Idol," the chances of getting tickets to see a live taping are pretty long. However, it is easier than becoming a contestant for show.

      Go to the "American Idol" official website (see Resources below). Follow the links and join the waiting list for check-in vouchers.

      Check you email regularly until the show notifies you with an email that check-in vouchers are available.

      Act quickly when your receive your email notice because replies are first-come, first-serve.

      Obtain your check-in voucher and celebrate. You have increased your chances of getting an assigned seating. Look at your voucher and note the date and time of the show. This voucher does not guarantee a seat yet, but it means you have a good chance to get in.

      Show up on the day of the taping at least 3 to 4 hours early and stand in line. The check-in voucher gets you in line for first-come, first-serve assigned seating. Bring something to keep busy while you wait, such as snacks, drinks, reading material and games.

      Enjoy your assigned seat for the taping of "American Idol" and scream and yell for your favorites. Look around to see if you are seated near any celebrities, as this show is one of the hottest tickets in town for actors and performing artists.

Tips & Warnings

  • The amount of check-in vouchers per week changes. Your email notice to request a check-in voucher will be received within several days of the show's taping.

  • If you fail to get tickets the first time, resubmit your name to the waiting list.

  • Producers of American Idol cannot offer check-in vouchers for specific dates so don't even try to request dates you want.

  • Your check in voucher must have your name on it and you must bring ID. Otherwise, you will not get a seat.

  • Do not buy check-in vouchers from a third party. "American Idol" producers will not honor them.
