George Washington's and Abraham Lincoln's birthdays were combined into one holiday to be observed the third Monday of every February. The day is intended to honor all presidents, past and present. As a part of this celebration, there are a number of parades to attend every year.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Red, white and blue clothing or accessories
  • Gloves, hat and scarf
  • Warm food or beverage
  • Chairs
  1. Step 1

Pick a parade. Parades are held all over the United States. Some of the largest celebrations are held in Alexandria, Virginia; New York, New York; Laredo, Texas and Washington, D.C. Your local community may also host a parade.

  2. Step 2

Wear your red, white and blue. As this is a patriotic event, you should wear clothes that identify with its spirit.

  3. Step 3

Dress warmly. As this parade is always held in February, the temperatures tend to be chilly in most parts of the United States. Gloves, hats and scarves should be taken to the parade in order to stay warm. A warm coat should be worn. Dressing in layers often helps retain body heat, too.

  4. Step 4

Bring warm food or beverages with you to the parade. Hot chocolate or coffee are great to have with you when watching the parade. Other warm foods might include chili or soup if you're going to be sitting for a long period of time either before or after the parade.

  5. Step 5

Scope your spot out early. In order to have a good seat, you'll want to get your place established before the big crowd arrives. A week or so ahead of time, decide where you'd like to set up. Arrive at this location early on parade day, so you can claim your portion of the view.

  6. Step 6

Take chairs with you. If you can claim an area to put them, be sure to bring your chairs along. A parade can be an awful long standing-room only event, otherwise.
