There is a lot of organization involved when putting on a golf tournament. The more time you plan ahead for the tournament the easier it will be to organize and the smoother it will go. There are several things you must do to organize a well run golf tournament.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate
Step1
Determine the size of the golf tournament. This is the most important part when organizing a golf tournament because it can have an outcome on the course you use, the prizes you give away and the format of the tournament.
Step2
Decide what course the tournament will be held on. The course that will be used will be determined by the level of players and the amount of players. Call ahead to several golf courses that you can hold your tournament on when you know the skill level and number of players you have.
Step3
Pick a format for the tournament. Again this will be determined when you figure out how many players and the skill level of players in the tournament. There are many formats you can use such as match play, scramble, best ball, and alternate shot, to name a few. The format will also differ if you organize a team golf tournament or singles golf tournament.
Step4
Know your budget. The budget that you have for the golf tournament you organize will affect the course you use, the prizes you buy, food and drink you may need, and what time of year you hold the golf tournament.
Step5
Consider when you want to hold the golf tournament. If you organize the golf tournament during the week it can be less expensive to use the course. It also will be less expensive if you have the tournament in the off months such as winter and fall--this will be determined by where you live.
Step6
Plan ahead. Every single aspect of organizing a golf tournament will be easier, and save you money, if you plan ahead. From booking a golf course to organizing teams, the more you plan ahead the more time you will have to organize a well run golf tournament.
Step7
Get prizes for the tournament. The prizes you have will differ depending whether it's a fun tournament or a competitive one. You can have prizes for many things such as best overall score, closest to the hole, highest team score, and so on. You can even have gag prizes such as worst overall score or worst golf outfit.
Step8
Confirm tee times. When you have set up everything else the last thing you have to do is confirm the tee times. Call the golf course days before the tournament will be held and make sure you are on the same page with the tee times for the tournament. After you have confirmed the tee times let the players know their tee times.
