You don't have to spend a lot of money if you use a web design program like Microsoft FrontPage to create a website. FrontPage allows you to create personal and business websites without learning HTML.

Instructions

Difficulty: Challenging

Things You’ll Need:

  • Computer
  • FrontPage

Step1
Double-click on the "FrontPage" icon on your desktop or click "Start." Choose "All Programs" and click "FrontPage." Use a blank page or a template to create the look you want. Click the arrow beside blank page. Choose "Web" from the list and then "Personal Web." Click "OK." Your page will be stored in the "My Webs" file in "My Documents."
Step2
Create your homepage by adding information about yourself, your product or your company. Include your site name at the top of the page. Divide your page into sections by creating a chart, using a template or using frames. In "Page View," click "File" from the menu bar. Choose "New" from the list and then "Page or Web." This opens the "New Page" window.
Step3
Click "Page Templates" and choose "Frames Pages" from the box. Click "Banner and Contents" and "OK." You can choose any frame style from the list. Type your information into the frames.
Step4
Add text to the frames by typing into the areas. Use large font in a bright color for your title, which usually sits at the top of the screen. Use smaller fonts for the information in the frames below. You can add text the same way you type it in Microsoft Word. Use fonts like Arial and Times New Roman; most people can see these fonts with their web browsers. Use heading styles from the heading list to change your fonts to typical sizes and styles. You can also use FrontPage's paragraph styles to organize the text on your page.
Step5
Use hyperlinks and buttons to take your readers from one page to the next. You can change any text or image into a hyperlink. Type the word. Click "Insert" and choose "Hyperlink." The Hyperlink box opens. Choose which file your words will link to from the hyperlink. Click "OK."
Step6
Include images in the frames. You can insert images from anywhere on your hard drive or from the Internet. Use JPEG and GIF files because they are compressed and load onto a page fairly quickly. You can check the download time of each page at the bottom right of the page.
Step7
Create a table on your page instead of using frames. You can insert all your information into various cells and make the borders invisible. Insert images into cells by clicking the "Insert" button on the menu bar. Find the location of your image and insert it into the document.
Step8
Save all your images and files. Save all the files together as one site. When you save your pages, FrontPage stores the images as separate files in "My Documents."
Step9
Publish your site to the Internet. Test your site and make sure your links work. Connect to the Internet. Click "File," and then "Publish Web" from the list. Type the address of the Web server where you want to publish your Web pages into the box. Click "Publish."

Tips & Warnings

  • Test all your links before you publish your website.
  • You can browse the "Help" files for information, or use the search feature to find answers to your questions.
