Mac Mail is designed to announce new incoming mail with an audible tone. The new mail sound feature is set up with a default tone, but it can be changed easily to a more appealing sound. Change the new mail sound in Mac Mail in minutes by following these few steps.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Log into Mac Mail and look for "Preferences" in the menu toward the top of the page. Choose the "General" tab and go to the section labeled "New Mail."

  2. Step 2

Select a new mail sound from the dropped down menu list or simply click on add or remove for a specific sound. Close the dialog box.

  3. Step 3

Test out the new Mac Mail sound. Compose a message within Mac Mail and send it to the same email address that was outlined in Step 1.

  4. Step 4

Wait for Mac Mail to send and receive through the server to confirm that the new Mac Mail sound works.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be courteous and observant of the surroundings. If Mac Mail is used at work or in public areas, adjust the volume a bit so that it does not disturb fellow coworkers or people within earshot of the new Mac Mail sound.
