Project-based fellowships provide funding for people chosen to complete a specific project in conjunction with a nonprofit organization. These fellowships are sometimes difficult to get because they take into consideration the qualifications and abilities of the individual as well as the nonprofit organization. Follow these steps to get information about project based fellowships.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Step1
Go to the PSLAWNET website. They offer information about fellowships and allow you to search for them in different categories.
Step2
Find a host organization and design your own project-based fellowship. Some foundations will fund a project if it is in line with their mission statement.
Step3
Visit Columbia Law School's website; their Center for Public Interest Law has a downloadable brochure that lists a number of organizations that offer project-based fellowships.
Step4
Get involved with an organization whose mission you feel strongly about. Network with people in the organization and let them know that you are interested in continuing this work after graduation. Someone in the organization might be able to put you in touch with a group that provides funding.

Tips & Warnings

  • Plan ahead. Applying for a fellowship and writing a proposal can take several months, so make sure that you give yourself enough time. If you'd like to begin a fellowship when you graduate, begin the process in the fall of your senior year.
