With a high demand for computer security specialists today, the job outlook is excellent for anyone wanting to obtain the Cisco Certified Security Professional (CCSP) level of security training. Become a CCSP and be recognized by the National Security Agency (NSA) as well as the Committee on National Security Systems (CNSS) as a System Administrator who can take on the management of critical networks as well as security oversight responsibilities.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Know that obtaining the CCSP is the professional level of Cisco certification for the Network Security track. Complete the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) level of certification first as prerequisite to become a CCSP.

  2. Step 2

Understand that Cisco has been authorized by the US Government to grant the official NSA and CNSS certification along with the CCSP. Meet the Cisco and government standards and receive an official letter of professional recognition along with your CCSP.

  3. Step 3

Train to manage and secure network infrastructures. Help to protect networks and prevent computer intruder infiltration. Learn security skills needed to become a CCSP, such as Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS), secured VPN management, Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA), Cisco Adaptive Security Device Manager (ASDM), PIX firewall and Cisco Security Agent (CSA). Bring these technologies together to provide companies and government agencies with an integrated solution for network security.

  4. Step 4

Locate schools and other training facilities that offer Cisco-approved courses in your area to become a CCSP. Click on the "Participating in the Program" link on the Cisco website. Make sure the school or training facility you choose offers higher level certification courses.

  5. Step 5

Take Cisco-approved courses online or offline. Study independently or in lecture courses where you get hands-on training. Expect Cisco certificate training courses to be demanding as they involve fast-paced comprehension of intense curriculum material and skilled training.

  6. Step 6

Estimate total costs of Cisco training, including courses needed for certifications as well as fees for materials and testing. Save money with independent study; however, understand the amount of memorization, studying and skills required to pass Cisco certification tests.

  7. Step 7

Successfully conclude the Cisco recommended securing networks training to test for and become a CCSP. Complete programs instructed by Cisco-certified teachers that include fundamental security networking and implementation knowledge. Pass all required five exams to become a CCSP.
