With more than 40 museums, the greater Boston area can keep the museum-goer busy for weeks. Museums featuring art, history, culture and science tantalize the interests of everyone in the family. Plan a trip to Boston to take in the museums.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Explore African-American history in this late 1700s building that was home to the first grammar and primary school for black children in 1834. The Museum of Afro-American History is location at 46 Joy Street and is free to the public.

  2. Step 2

    Visit the Museum of Fine Arts, one of the country's greatest museums, offering a wealth of familiar and historic works. Take a free guided tour. Reserve at least a full day for this spectacular facility at 456 Huntington Avenue at Museum Road.

  3. Step 3

    Marvel at the resplendent array in this private collection of tapestries, paintings, sculpture and objets d'art once owned by Isabella Stewart Gardner. Visit this museum that was once her home at 280 The Fenway.

  4. Step 4

    Check out the Museum of Science on the Charles River. Take kids and adults for a great time with interactive exhibits, a chicken hatchery and the world's largest lightning bolt generator.

  5. Step 5

    Put the Children's Museum on the wharf at the top of the list. Visit the engaging museum, located in an old wool warehouse, where kids of all ages can spin tops, blow bubbles and touch everything. Check out the Science Playground, the Climbing Sculpture and the Museum Gift Shop.

  6. Step 6

    Go aboard the U.S.S. Constitution next to Old Ironsides in the Charlestown Navy Yard. Learn about the oldest commissioned battleship afloat in the world in interactive galleries. Visit the U.S.S. Constitution online, too.
