How to Make a Night Vision Webcam
A night vision webcam is a camera that is able to detect infrared light. All webcams are equipped with this ability, but they are also equipped with infrared light filters. To make a night vision webcam, remove the infrared light filter inside the webcam. This takes less than one hour.
Things You'll Need
- Webcam
- Small screwdriver
- 1 long flat piece of metal 1/4- to 1/2-inch wide
- Glue

1
Open the webcam. The webcam has small screws on the side for you to loosen in order to see the inside.
-
2
Remove the lens assembly from the circuit board with a screwdriver. Do not allow bright, direct light to hit the lens or the back of the lens assembly.
-
-
3
Place the lens down on a flat surface. Directly under the round piece of the lens assembly are two plastic pieces, one laying on top of the other.
-
4
Separate the pieces. Some webcams have screws holding the assembly together. Others may have glue holding them together. Unscrew them or pry them apart with a flat screwdriver or a flat piece of metal. Be careful not to damage the lens assembly while prying it open. Start slowly and ease the metal into the space between the two sides.
-
5
Remove the top piece. A square piece of glass, which is the infrared light filter, is held in with metal clamps or wire. Bend the wire clamps back to reveal the filter.
-
6
Place the piece you removed back on top of the assembly and attach them together with the screws or glue them back together.
-
7
Attach the assembly back to the circuit board. Connect the two pieces of the webcam back together. Test the webcam.
