The Sydney Opera House, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, sits at the edge of Sydney Harbour in Sydney Australia. The unique structure, designed in 1973 by Danish architect Jorn Utzon, is the home of Opera Australia, the Sydney Symphony and the Sydney National Theatre Company. In addition, the five-theater complex hosts regular ballet, theater and musical performances.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

Attend a performance. The Opera House maintains a full year-round schedule of musical, dramatic and dance performances. From high opera to pop icons, from musical comedy to Shakespeare, the selection offers something for every taste. Schedule and ticket information is available on the venue's website.

  2. Step 2

Tour the Opera House. The Sydney Opera House offers several different tours of the facility, including a one-hour highlights tour and a two-hour back stage tour. Advance reservations are strongly recommended and may be confirmed via the venue's website.

  3. Step 3

Have a meal—or a drink—at one of the restaurants. The Sydney Opera House offers a variety of restaurants and lounges. You can have an elegant meal, featuring Australian meat and produce, at Guillaume at Bennelong; enjoy a less-expensive cafe-style meal at Bistro Mozart or sample a cocktail or one of over 40 wines by the glass at the indoor/outdoor Opera Bar.

  4. Step 4

Photograph the Opera House from across the Harbor. The striking Sydney Opera House is best photographed from the other side of Sydney Harbor, with the Harbor Bridge as a backdrop and the sparkling water in the foreground.
