Plug in the hot plate.

Place the contents to be heated in an appropriate container such as a pan or a beaker, and put the container on the hot plate.

Turn on the hot plate, and heat the contents until they reach the desired temperature.

Remove the container from the hot plate, place it on a trivet, turn off the hot plate and unplug it.

Use only open containers to heat contents on a hot plate. Never attempt to heat a closed jar, can or other container as it could explode.

Wear tight-fitting clothes or roll up your sleeves to make sure they do not catch fire as you reach across the hot plate.

Step 7
Keep all flammable materials away from the hot plate, including paper products, volatile chemicals and other organic materials.
