How to Knit a Hat

Knitting is a fun and relaxing craft hobby. It's also useful since you can wear the clothes you make or give them as gifts to your family and friends. There's nothing nicer than receiving a gift that was handmade. Knit a hat for yourself or friends, even if you're a beginner.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase the things you need. Super centers sell yarn and knitting needles, so you don't have to go to a craft store to obtain your materials to knit the hat.

    • 2

Pick up an easy pattern to knit your hat. You can find patterns online, at major retailers or at a craft store near you. When in the craft store, ask the store clerk to take you to the beginner's section.

    • 3

Cast on your stitches. Patterns vary so see your pattern for exactly how many stitches to cast on for the hat you plan to knit.

    • 4

Knit each row until the hat measures 6 inches. Now begin to shape by decreasing the number of stitches by knitting three stitches together at a time. Continue this until there are only seven stitches left on your needle.

    • 5

Follow the pattern exactly. Don't deviate, or the hat may not turn out like the picture on the pattern.

    • 6

Finish your project by casting off your stitches and making a knot at the end so it doesn't unravel. Make sure the knot doesn't show on the outside of the hat. Try the hat on. Enjoy wearing it.
