Make the IPod Controls
Step1
Cut two circles from the silver poster board, one 12 inches in diameter and the other 4 inches in diameter. Use double-sided tape to attach the smaller circle with the white side facing out inside the larger silver circle.
Step2
Draw then paint the fast forward, rewind, play/pause buttons and write menu on the silver circle using a real iPod (or picture of an iPod) as a guide.
Step3
Set the circles aside to let the paint dry (preferably 4 hours while you finish the remainder of the costume.
Make the IPod Player
Step1
Score the corners of the foam board rounded to match the shape of an iPod. Score the shape first, bending the edge off and continue scoring until the piece comes off with a clean edge.
Step2
Draw a rectangle at the top of the board, approximately 10-by-16 inches to create the window of the iPod leaving a 2-inch buffer from the top and sides of the board. Score the lines with the craft knife and continue scoring until the window pops out.
Step3
Cut a piece of cellophane 12-by-18 inches and carefully stretch it over the open window securing with masking tape.
Finish the Costume
Step1
Flip the foam board over and cut two pieces of ribbon into equal lengths, ensuring they are long enough to hang across the shoulders of the person who will wear the costume. The ribbon will attach at the middle of the board and will run up the board, go over the shoulder of the wearer, back down and meet the middle of the board again. It's helpful to have the person there to run the ribbon around them. Before cutting the ribbon, make sure to leave plenty extra length. Attach the ribbons to the board with duct tape, taping in several places along the back of the board.
Step2
Stick three sections of the Velcro on the bottom of the ribbon. Once the costume is complete, have the person try on the costume and align the window with their face and pull the ribbons taught. Place the other half of the Velcro sections on the ribbon to hold the costume on. Trim any excess ribbon.
Step3
Use the double-sided tape to attach the dry circles to the front of the foam board.
Step4
Finish the costume by rolling a hand towel lengthwise and taping with duct tape to the back of the board just below the window. This will hold the cellophane window a comfortable distance from the face.
