Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Step1
Eat well. Good eating habits can help you fight infection, maintain strength and stay active. You may reach a period where the taste and smell of food affects you in a negative way. During these periods, remember, you are eating to maintain strength and stay healthy. Decorate your table with flowers or anything that makes you feel better and make the most out of the foods you eat, packing in protein, fruits and vegetables. Try eating smaller meals more frequently throughout the day. Choose foods that don't require cooking when smells bother you.
Step2
Manage stress and reduce physical tension. Face your worries and fears head on. Ask yourself if you are doing everything you can to help yourself. Educate yourself about your cancer. It's easier to overcome if you know what you're fighting.
Step3
Exercise. Swimming, walking or jogging can help increase your endurance and boost your spirits. You may reach a point where fatigue prevents you from good workouts, but maintaining at least some exercise routines can help you keep your spirits up and keep you from feeling so overwhelmed.
Step4
Expect change and be flexible. You probably won't be able to work a 40 hour week for a while, but you may be able to do some work. You may find you feel depressed or helpless at times, this is normal. Find a support group, therapist or cancer survivor help to help you cope.
