Thieves often steal iPods because they are expensive, small and easy to snatch. You can protect your investment from theft by following a few steps to keep your iPod from money-hungry thieves.
Keep your iPod hidden and never leave it unattended. If you have it on you, keep it in your purse or pocket. If it's in a car, keep it out of sight from passerbys who might be tempted to break into your car and take it.
Step2
Put a lock on your iPod. You can purchase portable iPod locks that will attach onto your device so you can lock it onto anything you want to, such as your purse, your backpack, your chair at the pool or the treadmill at the gym.
Step3
Get rid of the distinguishable iPod white earbuds, which are noticeable at a distance and announce to all thieves that you have an iPod. Replace them with earphones that will draw less attention.
Step4
Leave the iPod belt clips at home. Wearing them out is dangerous, as the iPod and the clip is easily removed from your belt. Before you even know, it your precious iPod could be in the hands of an expert pick pocket.
Step5
Disguise your iPod so that thieves don't even realize you have one. iDisguise makes a device that will hide your iPod in a peppermint or wintergreen candy case. They occasionally change the looks of the packaging to keep the iPod disguise from becoming recognizable.
Step6
Register your iPod with LostiPods, GagetTrak, iGuard or any other theft-tracking company. Most of these companies provide a sticker for your iPod, warning users of the device's tracking capability. Once your iPod is used on a computer with Internet access, you will be contacted with information about the computer and location. The sticker alone might be enough to deter a thief from stealing your iPod.
Step7
Log onto Apple's website and register your iPod with them. Create an Apple ID name and password if you don't have one already with iTunes. Type in your serial number, which is found on the back of your iPod. Create a profile by typing in your address and phone number. If someone calls Apple to report finding your lost iPod, Apple will call you on the phone number listed in your profile.
Step8
Keep a record of your iPod's serial number. Report your stolen iPod with the police if you are a victim of theft as soon as it happens. Give them the serial number and description of your device when doing so to better your chance of finding your iPod.
