How to Wear a Bikini Confidently

For some women, there are few things as terrifying as wearing a bikini in public. In the bright sunlight, every stretch mark and dimple seem to take center stage. But if everyone around you is clad in a two piece, you might want to take the plunge and join the crowd. You will look fabulous, provided you feel good about yourself and wear that bikini confidently.

From Quick Guide: Beach Body Basics
Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Make sure the bikini you're wearing is flattering. Go to a swimwear boutique to get fitted for exactly the right size. Even though bikinis are made from very little fabric, control-top panels and underwire bras can conceal figure flaws.

  2. Step 2

Bring a cover-up like a sarong or a tunic to keep on if you feel insecure when you're in public. Even just having it in your bag can give you some confidence--you know you can put it on if anxiety should set in.

  3. Step 3

Look around at the other bodies on the beach or at the pool. Unless you're good friends with the cast of "Baywatch," chances are they have figure flaws just like you. Stretch marks and cellulite are a part of life for some women, along with belly bulges and saddlebag thighs. Take solace in knowing you're not alone.

  4. Step 4

Notice that no one else is probably looking at your body. For all of your anxiety over whether your bikini bottom makes your hips look wide, people at the beach or around the pool are busy socializing, eating, drinking and worrying about their own hips. They're not thinking about yours.

  5. Step 5

Enjoy a frozen cocktail. A sweet drink with one of those paper umbrellas in it might be just the thing to get you to relax and stop thinking about your bikini.
