How to Make Pasta With a Paper Shredder

It is rumored that the first paper shredder was inspired by a hand cranked pasta maker. The two designs are similar in form and function. So, if you find yourself with a spare paper shredder and a taste for some homemade linguine here, you might try converting your paper shredder into a pasta maker.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Paper shredder
  • Pasta dough
  • Bowl

Step1
Clean the paper shredder. Get out any bits of paper and dust that may have accumulated, or they will contaminate your pasta.
Step2
Remove the paper catching bin from beneath the shredder.
Step3
Find the receptacle sensing button on the bottom of your shredder and tape it up or simply hold it in with your finger.
Step4
Coat the shredder's blades with cooking oil. Running the shredder while you apply the oil will spread it evenly. A cooking oil spray makes applying oil to the shredder simpler and cleaner.
Step5
Feed your pasta dough into the shredder. Roll your dough thin enough to fit into the shredder without triggering its automatic cut-off switch.
Step6
Use a large bowl to catch your strips of dough as they exit the machine. Enjoy your fresh, office equipment made pasta.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't use a high-security, cross-cut shredder. This will cut your dough into little tiny bits that won't be suitable for pasta.
