1
Clean the entire surface of the driveway. Sweep away any pebbles, rocks or debris that may have accumulated on the surface. Remove all dust, sand and dirt deposits. Scrub away any contaminants from the driveway surface, like oils, grease or gas products. Use a pressure washer for stubborn spots.
-
2
Dig out any materials in potholes or depressions for a clean smooth surface. Place sand or dirt into the pothole and level to within 1 inch of the driveway surface. Fill the remaining void with cold asphalt filler. Tamp down the filler with a tamping tool or a 2-by-4 piece of wood.

Purchase cold asphalt material at any home improvement or hardware store. Consult with the staff there to find the best material for the project. Commercial brands, such as Quickcrete®, are available for smaller jobs.

4
Apply a quality commercial driveway patching sealant. After the cold asphalt patching dries, sweep the entire driveway surface to remove any remaining particles. Fill in any small cracks and voids with an appropriate caulking. Put the sealant down onto the driveway in thin, even strokes with a squeegee or brush. Let cure for at least 24 hours or per the instructions.
