If you grow lots of flowers in your garden you are probably wishing you knew of more ways to preserve them. Other than drying flowers, waxing them is one of the more popular flower preservation methods. It is quick and easy to create beautiful waxed flowers.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Pick the flowers you wish to wax. It is best to wax them when they are nice and fresh so wait to pick them until you are ready to create waxed flowers.

  2. Step 2

Melt paraffin wax in a double boiler pot.

  3. Step 3

Hold the flower by the bottom of the stem and dip it into the melted paraffin. Be sure to coat the stem too if you plan on leaving the stems on.

  4. Step 4

Shake off the excess wax and allow it to drip dry for a minute.

  5. Step 5

Put the waxed flower in the refrigerator to set and harden.

Tips & Warnings
  • For a more advanced method of creating waxed flowers try melting smaller amounts of several different colored waxes. Instead of dipping the flower into the wax use a small arts and crafts paint brush. Brush the various colors onto the flower and stem. Paint the leaves and stem with green wax and the flowers with various colors. You can give the entire flower a dipped base coat of clear wax before painting on your colored waxes if you wish.
  • Always use care when working with melted wax. Melted wax is very hot and can stick to skin and cause severe burns.
