Joining a yacht club is one way to meet other people who enjoy sailing. Whether or not you have experience sailing, you can join a yacht club. To belong to many yacht clubs, you don't even have to own a boat since yacht owners are always looking for crew members to go on excursions. Choose a yacht club near you and begin enjoying an exciting and rewarding sport.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Check online for yacht clubs near you. Find that many clubs now have their own websites, such as "Seattle Yacht Club" or "Sarasota Yacht Club" and find out about social events, get involved with sailboat racing or enroll your kids in a Junior Sailing Program. Participate in other types of boating as well, such as power boating.

  2. Step 2

Take adult sailing classes when you choose a yacht club. Learn to sail so that you can enjoy sailing your own yacht with friends or join a sailing crew on someone else's yacht. Discover many yacht clubs offer sailing lessons, and you begin training on a yacht right away.

  3. Step 3

Find that some yacht clubs are geared toward singles, whereas others are more conducive for families. Distinguish also between yacht clubs focusing on social events versus those that cater to serious sailors and sailboat racing.

  4. Step 4

Decide what sort of yacht club is best for you and what you most want to accomplish with a club. Choose a yacht club based on your comfort level with sailing, socializing or racing. Learn about yachts and get advice about buying one if that's also your goal.
