Here's an easy project for next Valentine's Day. Get your child started making Valentine Guy Valentines, and then let him create the Valentines on his own. Homemade Valentines are no more expensive than store bought cards and are much more fun to give and receive.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2 sticks of gum per Valentine
  • 1 pipe cleaner per Valentine
  • Construction paper or card stock
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Double-stick tape
  • Markers
  • Embellishments
  • Google eyes
  1. Step 1

Cut a pipe cleaner in half. Put a large piece of double stick tape on one side of a wrapped piece of gum. Stick one pipe cleaner half across the top of the gum and the other across the bottom for the arms and legs.

  2. Step 2

Stick the second piece of gum on the first and gently press them together. Bend the arms and legs into fun poses.

  3. Step 3

Make the head by cutting a small heart from construction paper or card stock. Glue yarn, foil or paper to the top of the heart for hair.

  4. Step 4

Put googly eyes on the face. Draw a mouth and nose with markers, or make them from scraps of paper. Tape the head to the gum stick body.

  5. Step 5

Decorate the gum sticks with stickers, yarn or other embellishments.

  6. Step 6

Write a clever Valentine note on a small piece of paper. Glue the paper to one of the pipe cleaner hands.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use a hole punch to punch out several small paper circles to use as cheeks and buttons for the clothes.
