If you suffer from a yeast infection, you aren't alone. A yeast infection occurs when the vagina and the vulva become irritated due to an excessive amount of the fungus commonly referred to as candida. When you have a yeast infection it is important to take precautions in order to ensure that your partner won't become infected and to avoid passing it back and forth during sex.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Check your partner for any signs of a yeast infection before having sex. If you notice any redness, swelling, rash or an unpleasant odor, encourage your partner to see a doctor before having sex with him.

  2. Step 2

Abstain from sex. It is the only 100 percent proof-positive way to avoid passing Candida back and forth. You can resume sexual activity once your partner has been treated for the infection.

  3. Step 3

Use a latex condom. If you can't abstain from sex when your partner has a yeast infection, a condom can be used to prevent passing it.

  4. Step 4

Treat the infected person with an over the counter yeast infection cream. If you can wipe out the yeast in the infected partner, the chances of passing it to someone else is diminished.

  5. Step 5

Take an oral medication prescribed by your doctor. It may be necessary to treat both partners with an oral medication. Yeast can be resistant to over the counter creams, which is why a prescribed oral medication may be necessary.

Tips & Warnings
  • If your partner is being treated with an over the counter yeast infection cream, be aware that it can damage latex condoms. You may want to try a condom that isn't made from latex should you want to have sex.
