Step 1
Note any painless, red bumps on or near the anus, penis or the lips of the vagina. These bumps generally appear 10 to 40 days after infection occurs.
-
Step 2
Notice if any of these red bumps have burst open. Discharge may be oozing from the open bumps as well. This is a symptom of Granuloma inguinale.
-
Step 3
Smell a foul smelling smell? When the red bumps break open there is often a noticeable odor.
-
Step 4
Keep an eye out for lesions that spread throughout the infected area. Typically, the outer surface of the skin breaks down and can cause damage to the area of the genitals that is infected.
-
Step 5
Identify if lesions and bumps have spread to the area where the legs and the upper body come together. Bleeding may occur as well. This is a symptom of Donovanosis.
-
Step 6
Look for any change in color of the skin on your genital area as well. The skin surrounding that area may also change color due to Donovanosis.
