If you'd like to keep some cash or your passport safe while you travel, consider adding a hidden pocket to your favorite hat. Your things will stay safe and you'll always know where they are. The steps below will teach you how to sew a hidden pocket into a hat.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Pick a spot for the pocket on the inside of the hat. Think about your comfort. The pocket should be high enough so that it doesn't make the hat too tight on your head.

  2. Step 2

Choose a lightweight, durable material for your pocket. The color of the material should match the color of the inside of your hat.

  3. Step 3

Cut out a piece of the material that is double the size you want for your hidden pocket. If you'd like the pocket to close, be sure to cut out a little extra material for a flap.

  4. Step 4

Fold the piece of material in half. Using a needle and thread or a sewing machine, stitch up both sides to attach the two halves together. Iron the pocket flat. If you have a closable flap, iron the flap down so that it's in the closed position.

  5. Step 5

Attach Velcro to the underside of the flap and the outside of the pocket to ensure your hidden pocket stays closed.

  6. Step 6

Sew the pocket to the inside of your hat. Use a needle and thread to straight stitch all the way around the pocket. Remember to stitch through the pocket and into the liner of the hat. Don't push the needle all the way through the hat or you'll have stitch marks on the outside.
