How to Clean a Doghouse

Doghouses can get filthy over time. You may find feces, urine, dirt and other unpleasant things inside. A dirty doghouse can lead to sickness in a pet and also causes your animal to bring dirt into your home. Cleaning a dog's house keeps the structure sanitary and pleasant for your pet. Instructions

1. Plan to clean a doghouse at least once a month. During rainy or humid seasons, you may choose to clean the doghouse more often.

2. Wear gloves. To keep yourself protected, put on a pair of gloves that extend past your wrists.

3. Pick up any piles of feces that you find inside or on the steps leading into the structure. These should be removed first before you try to clean any other areas of the doghouse.

4. Sweep out all of the dirt, leaves and branches. You may need a small hand-held broom to perform this task. Remove the top of the doghouse to help you easily clean out the interior.

5. Fill a bucket with water and mild soap. Use the sponge to scrub the floor and walls of the doghouse.

6. Rinse out the inside of the doghouse. Make sure all of the soap is rinsed away before replacing the top.

7. Use a hose to wash the outside of the doghouse. A quick rinse of the outside is all that is needed.

Tips & Warnings

• If you keep a bed or blankets inside of the doghouse, make sure you clean these as well. Run them through the wash or discard them and replace with a new set.
• If the roof can not be removed, you may choose to simply hose out your dog's house from time to time.
