Since 1968, the Pocono 500 has evolved into one of the best known NASCAR races in the country. It's located in Long Pond, Pennsylvania. The pit area of Pocono Raceway is one of the best and most accessible when it comes to getting your favorite drivers' autographs. The track is distinctive because all three corners of it are different from each other. They were each modeled after a different racetrack. Read on to learn how to go to the Pocono 500.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Buy tickets. They range from $45 to $500 depending on where you want to sit. You can also buy pit and paddock passes. They are available in advance online or the day of the Pocono 500.
Step2
Book accommodations. Look for deals at hotels around the racetrack. Some offer what they call Fan Appreciation Getaways. The Pocono Mountain Vacation Bureau is a good place to start. Call (800) POCONOS.
Step3
Plan to camp. The track side RV area costs $500 for the RV and $50 per person. The family grandstand area is $150 per vehicle and everyone must have a Sunday ticket.
Step4
Know the rules. There are certain things you're not allowed to bring into the Pocono Raceway. This includes fireworks, kegs and pets, to name a few.
Step5
Arrive at the racetrack early. Gates typically open at 9 a.m. Pre-race activities start at 11 a.m. and the green flag drops at 2 p.m. There will be a lot of traffic, so allow extra time to get there. There aren't any multi-lane highways leading into Pocono Raceway, so traffic gets tied up.

Tips & Warnings

  • The Pocono Raceway is in a remote area. If you're camping, bring everything you'll need because there are no stores nearby.
