Instead of purchasing Playdough, you can make your own. Making oatmeal playdough is a fun activity for kids and adults to do together. Kids have just as much fun making this playdough as they do playing with it. The following steps will show you how to make playdough out of oatmeal.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2 cups Oatmeal or cornmeal
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup water
  • Food coloring
  1. Step 1

Measure out one cup of flour and two cups of oatmeal or cornmeal into a medium-sized bowl. Mix the two ingredients well.

  2. Step 2

Put one cup of water into a separate medium-to-large bowl. Add a few drops of food coloring, the color of your choice.

  3. Step 3

Slowly add the dry mixture to the colored water, mixing well as you go.

  4. Step 4

Mix the combined ingredients from the water mixture and the flour mixture well until it is a smooth consistency. Add a little more flour if the mixture is too sticky.

  5. Step 5

Play with your playdough as often as you like, but keep it in an airtight container and store it in the fridge when not in use.

Tips & Warnings
  • If doing this as a group activity, you can provide premixed ingredients in smaller sizes and have each child mix their own batch in the color of their choice.
  • Your playdough should be able to stay fresh for a few weeks in the fridge after you make it.
  • You can leave your sculpted creations out to dry if you wish to save them.
