People all over the world enjoy roast lamb. Lamb for roasting, however, is not as easy to find and purchase as other types of meat are. Here are some tips about how to purchase lamb to roast in your home.

From Quick Guide: Cooking Techniques
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Look on the Internet for companies that can ship lamb to you. Web-based suppliers like Australian Lamb and Gourmet Direct can bring you lamb from different parts of the world, all to your front door.

  2. Step 2

Contact your local butcher. Grocery stores usually don't keep roasting lamb in stock. If the particular butcher you talk to has no lamb in stock, they should be able to direct you to someone who does.

  3. Step 3

Talk to a local farmer. If you're not squeamish you could pick out a live lamb and have the farmer butcher it for you. Farmers who raise livestock for the purpose of consumption can be found in the phone book.

Tips & Warnings
  • Purchasing your lamb from a local farmer will get you the freshest meat.
  • Compare prices and quality between a few companies before making your final purchase.
  • If you go the Internet route to purchase your lamb, check to make sure it is a legitimate business before placing your order.
