If you are visiting the New England area, then you are going to want to stop and see the sites in Connecticut. Although it is a small state, it has a lot to offer in the way of shopping, food and culture. Read on to learn how to get the best out of a visit to Connecticut.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Book your stay at a bed and breakfast or small inn. Connecticut is an ideal vacation spot for quaint lodging choices. Two to consider: the Tidewater Bed and Breakfast in Madison and the Mystic Inn in Mystic.

  2. Step 2

Visit Connecticut during autumn. This way, you can enjoy the area's magnificent fall foliage. Find a foliage map online and print it out before your trip.

  3. Step 3

Start by seeing the state's historic sites. If you begin in Hartford, then you can visit attractions like the Old State House, Mark Twain Home, and the Center Church. There are also numerous tobacco fields and open barns available for touring in this region.

  4. Step 4

See the lighthouses in Connecticut. In Norwalk, there is the Sheffield Island Lighthouse; it was built in the 19th century and is open daily for tours.

  5. Step 5

Travel to the eastern area of the state. Mystic is located in this region and draws the biggest tourist crowds. There is world-class shopping in Mystic as well as an aquarium, boat tours and a children's theater.

  6. Step 6

Enjoy the area's seafood. You can find great seafood all over the state, but especially at Mystic Seaport. Try the selections at Jamms Restaurant or Seamen's Inn Restaurant.

Tips & Warnings
  • There is only one international airport located in Connecticut. It is the Bradley International Airport and can be found in Windsor Locks off of I-91.
  • Several fairs and festivals take place in Mystic throughout the year. Highlights include the Chowderfest and Harvest Festival in October.
