Additionally, the famous shoe warehouse DSW (Designer Shoe Warehouse) has a presence in 36 states, making it accessible (and affordable) to most in the United States.

Consider consignment, Goodwill or Salvation Army. Most towns have at least one consignment store, and this is not a bad place to search for shoes. Most wealthy families deposit last season's styles at a local organization like Goodwill. If you don't mind sharing shoes with another pair of feet, designer flats and heels can cost you as little as $5.

Head to the outlet malls. It would be wonderful if we could all afford to shop at Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus and Saks 5th Avenue. Luckily, all of these fancy stores have outlet versions—Nordstrom Rack, Neiman Marcus Outlet and Off 5th, respectively. Any outlet version of an upscale department store usually offers discounted inventory.

Sign up for coupons and mail-outs for your favorite stores and designers. Thanks to the fleeting nature of high fashion, shoes usually go on clearance at some point. It sure will help to have your 20-percent-off coupon handy when the designer clearance event is announced.
