How to Find a Job in a Small Town
Whether you live in a small town or the big city, the key to a successful job search is really about networking. When it comes to finding a job, it's definitely not what you know but who you know. Submitting applications alone probably won't land you the job you're looking for. So take advantage of living in a small community and get out there using some of these techniques.

1
Start with the administrative staff at your local Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber is a focal point for local businesses and the secretaries talk to members on a regular basis about their business needs. If anyone is hiring, they'll know about it .
-
2
Check the Help Wanted ads in your small town newspaper. Local businesses, large and small, located in small towns still utilize newspaper ads as they're cost efficient and serve a local community.

3
Get involved in service clubs like 4-H or Rotary. If you have children join the school's PTA. The more groups you're involved in the more opportunities you'll have to network when searching for a job.
-
4
Run your own ad in the classified section of your local newspaper. List your skills and desired hours and allow potential employers to call you. Don't list salary requirements in your ad, as that's a topic more appropriate for a face to face conversation.

5
Take advantage of Internet sites that allow you to search for jobs in specific zip codes. Many sites, like Monster, allow you to search geographically as well as by job type which will help you narrow your search to your small town.
