How to Merge Cells in a Dreamweaver Table

It's a quick and easy process to merge table cells together in Dreamweaver. You may want to merge cells together when you are creating table headings or if you simply want to have a solid line of information within your table. Follow the steps below to merge cells together in your Dreamweaver table.

Things You’ll Need:

  • Dreamweaver

Step1
Start Dreamweaver and open an existing document that contains a table you have already created that needs cells to be merged together.
Step2
Select the cells you wish to merge together into one cell. You can do this by using your mouse to click and drag over the cells or holding down the CTRL button as you click the cells you wish to be selected.
Step3
Choose the "Modify" menu, point to the "Table" option and then click on "Merge Cells." The cells you selected will now be merged into one cell.
Step4
Use the Properties palette to set the cell properties you would like to have applied to this new merged cell.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can insert a table into Dreamweaver by choosing the "Insert" menu and then clicking on "Table" to open the "Table" dialog box. Set the table settings, including the number of rows and columns you would like, and click the "OK" button to insert your new table.
  • Use the keyboard shortcut of CTRL+ALT+M to quickly merge two or more cells together.
  • You can also merge cells together by clicking the "Merge Cells" button at the bottom of the Properties palette when the cells are selected.
  • You must select multiple cells in order for them to be merged, and they must be adjacent to each other.
