How to Replace a Violin Peg
The peg of the violin holds the string and allows you to tune the instrument. These pegs withstand a lot of pressure and may need to be replaced for a variety of reasons. Pegs can warp or crack after years. Replacing them ensures that your violin is in perfect condition.

Check all the pegs and find which ones that you will need to replace. Check for cracks and warping.

Purchase the new pegs that you will need. Make sure that these pegs will fit properly in your instrument.

Unwind the string from the pegs and remove the end of the string from the hold in the peg. Secure the strings to make sure that it won't slip off the violin and that it won't accidentally touch once it is unwound.

Gently pull the peg out of the peg holes and replace it with the new peg. It make take some twisting for the peg to be removed and for the new peg to be fit in. The end of the peg should be flush with the outer edge of the peg box.

Slide the end of the string into the hold in the peg and carefully wind the string around the peg. Make sure you wind the string evenly over the peg to reduce movement and slipping.

Tune the violin and check to make sure the pegs won't slip or move and allow the violin to become out of tune.

Tips & Warnings
If you have a peg that is constantly slipping, rub caulk over the length of the peg to give it hold in the peg hole.
