Step 1
Look for programs that promote fitness, healthy eating and lifestyle changes rather than just weight loss. Counseling and behavior modification should be provided.
-
Step 2
Ask out about staff qualifications and experience. Look for professionals such as counselors, nutritionists and exercise physiologists.
-
Step 3
Find out how many participants are involved in each session. Evaluate whether the staff to participant ratio will allow you to receive individualized attention. Be sure the camp has a program devoted exclusively to people in your age group.
-
Step 4
Check out aftercare support. Does the camp offer a newsletter, phone or online support, or the ability to call a counselor or nutritionist once you get home?
-
Step 5
Try to find a camp that provides day trips and outside excursions, and is located in an area that you would like to visit. You'll probably be using your vacation time to spend time at fitness camp, so make the most of it!
-
Step 6
Make sure the camp provides food selections and activities that you will be able to continue to do when you're back home.
-
Step 7
Tour the facility before signing a contract for services. Make sure the rooms are comfortable, the equipment is up to date, and the staff is friendly and helpful. You might consider asking for references.
