A basket bouquet of fresh or dried flowers can be used to add a simple or elegant design element to most any occasion. Whether you are decorating for a wedding, birthday, baby shower or any other special occasion, learn these techniques on how to make a basket bouquet. While you can follow the general guidelines, the details are up to you.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Flowers
  • Basket
  • Floral foam
  • Scissors
  • Ribbon
  1. Step 1

Choose an array of your favorite flowers.

  2. Step 2

Select a basket in an appropriate size for the flowers you have chosen. For example, large headed flowers look best in a bigger basket, while petite flowers are best showcased in a smaller basket.

  3. Step 3

Cut a piece of floral foam that will fit the bottom of the basket. Floral foam is used to hold the flowers in place and can be used with both fresh and dried flowers. If you choose to use fresh flowers, make certain that the bottom of the basket is lined with a plastic insert to prevent water leakage.

  4. Step 4

Trim the flower stems to an appropriate length and arrange the buds in the basket. Place the large flowers first, and fill in any "holes" with the small flowers. Accent the basket with pieces of greenery once all the flowers have been put in place.

  5. Step 5

Embellish the basket with colorful ribbons, bows and tulle.

Tips & Warnings
  • Create a floral arrangement as a hostess gift, or welcome a new neighbor with a basket of flowers.
  • Be creative and use containers other than baskets. Try hollowed-out pumpkins for fall decorating or a watering can for a summer garden party. The possibilities are endless.
