How to Move an Ecommerce Site From One Web Host to Another

Moving your ecommerce site from one web host to another can be time consuming, but this should never keep you with a hosting site that you are not happy with. Moving from one host to another should be handled in the same way as a physical move. You need to pack up your business at your old site and unpack when you get to your new one; here's how.

Pack up

1. Allow 30 days for you to make the move. Although this will mean two sets of overhead expenses for 1 month, you need to keep your old services running for a month after switching to the new hosting company. This will give you the time you may need to check and fix any problems caused by the move.
2. Check for any problems that exist on your current site and fix them before packing up. This will make it easier when it comes time to set up at your new site.
3. Make copies of all of your ecommerce site pages and save them on CD.
4. Arrange for current services that you will no longer need to be disconnected.
5. Notify your domain name registrar of you move. This is the company that you registered your ecommerce name with.

Unpack

6. Upload your site pages from your CDs to your new site.
7. Redesign any portions of your website that may need to be to fit your new layout.
8. Notify your customers of your new email address.
9. Set up mail forwarding with your new ecommerce web host to ensure that you continue to receive any messages sent to your old email address.
