Step 1
Find an object that has a reasonably flat top and that comes up to your waist. Picnic tables, broad walls and the hoods of cars are the size for which you're looking. However, you should avoid vaulting cars that you don't actually own.
-
Step 2
Take a dozen steps or so back from the obstacle, and prepare to charge.
-
Step 3
Line up the vault and make sure you've got plenty of room to land on the other side while running at speed. You don't want to come flying over the obstacle only to trip over a curb or run into a crowd of passers-by.
-
Step 4
Run at the obstacle, building speed with each step until you've reached your top speed.
-
Step 5
Use either a split-step or a two-footed punch to plant your feet and launch you into the air. If you've done gymnastics you'll probably be comfortable with both, so the choice is up to you. Keep in mind that you'll preserve more forward momentum by staying in stride rather than punching the ground.
-
Step 6
Place both of your hands on the obstacle as you rise into the air. You should look like you're at the top of a pushup, except your feet will be floating behind you instead of touching the ground.
-
Step 7
Pop up off of your arms and draw your legs beneath your body.
-
Step 8
Land the vault in stride by placing one foot on the ground and then the other.
