It's true that kids don't come with directions. Every new mom faces trials and challenges, but the joy you'll feel with your new baby is well worth the trouble. The transition into motherhood may be a bit easier if you have an idea of what to expect. You can prepare for your new role as mother with a few simple steps.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Look for a good role model. For many people, this is as close as their own mother. Consider what you like about her strategies and what you didn't like. And most moms are happy to share tips and regrets about motherhood to help your new family.
Step2
Join a mom's group. It's a good way to meet other moms, and you can swap parenting tips and advice. If you can't physically make it to a group, check out online message boards for moms.
Step3
Find a good book. There's no short supply of parenting books available. Do some research to decide which book you think is the best, or you can take them all home. These books will have valuable tips that you can apply to your life with a new baby.
Step4
Follow your instincts. Through the course of pregnancy, it's amazing how a woman's body adapts to nurture the new life inside of her. In the same way, your life with naturally change to meet the needs of your baby. Even if you know nothing about being a mom, you'll know your baby better than anyone else.
Step5
Take it one day at a time. Each day is a building block that is stacked on the day before. Every day with your child, you'll learn something new. By the time you get it all down, it will be time for your kids to move out of the house, and then they'll start their own process and look to you for advice.
